Family Constellations is a profound exploration of the unseen dynamics that shape our lives. Bert Hellinger (The founder of the work who died aged 93 in 2023) says of the work that it is not a technique or a method but a way to transition to a new level of consciousness.
This is work with a group of between 8 to 16 people, some people will have issues they feel in the moment that they would like to work with, some prefer to just be present in the holding circle and others will be asked to represent people or concepts that are involved in the client's current issue. Everyone is involved and every constellation works for everyone. We experience our interconnectedness and we heal together.
By moving from prioritising our left brain thinking to embracing what we can experience directly with our bodies. Through speaking of facts only and working with what we see, hear, and experience in the present moment, we tune into what has become known as "the knowing field". We trust that this field will show us what we need to see. We work phenomenologically. And in this way we change our perspective, we widen our lens and begin to see our issues in a different way.
Family Constellations is about uncovering the patterns that link us to our ancestors, healing where it’s most needed, and bringing clarity to the invisible bonds that connect us. It’s an invitation to experience family not just as the past, but as a living, breathing part of our present and future.
We find ways to acknowledge the pain that our ancestors may have had to face. We feel the quiet release of an unspoken burden we didn’t know we were carrying, or the deep resonance of finding our place within our family story.
Typically people find Family Constellation work can help with issues in relationships, inability to thrive in an area of life such as money, health, children, distressing family dynamics, work or business problems that just won't go away! Perhaps a systemic view is worth a try - it is moving and connecting work and sometimes it takes courage - but there is no hurry, you can take your place in the constellations of others as you find your way or just be in the holding circle. There is no pressure to do anything but be present and follow your body.
